  8. What Schools Are Available for Transfer? • If your child attends a school that received a falling label, your child has the option of transfering to: • Vail Middle School • Gridley Middle School • Townsend Middle School

  9. Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) • Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) = an individual state’s measure of progress toward the 100% of students achieving the academic standards set by the state in at least reading/language arts and math.

  10. What Does Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) Do? • Sets a minimum level of proficiency that the state, its school districts, and schools must achieve each year on annual tests and related academic indicators. 5

  11. What if my Child’s School Did Not Make AYP? • If your child attends a Title 1 school that does not make AYP over a period of years, you will have the options of: • transferring your child to another school • or free tutoring (supplemental educational services) 6

  12. Consequences of Not Making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) • Title 1 Schools who have not made AYP for two school years in a row, will be identified as needing school improvement before the beginning of the next school year. • Immediately after a school is found to not be making AYP, school officials must develop a two year plan to turnaround the school • Students must also be offered the option of transferring to another school in the district. 8
