Chronicles the deaths resulting from the infamous heat wave with special attention given to the failures of the city of Chicago in terms of its preparedness and timely response to the crisis. Good examination of Mayor Daley and his role in the tragedy. Larson, Erik. The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America. New York, NY: Crown Publishers, 2003. Excellent account of Chicago’s re-birth after the fire to the world with the fair. Specific focus on Dr. HH Holmes and the murders occurring during the event.
