  2. Metadata provides information on: • the way information was produced • its scope • coverage • meaning • limitations

  3. Metadata is essential to: • decide on which available information to use • how to interpret information, including the limitations that may need to be considered

  4. 2 Levels of Metadata • Information on the means of dissemination • Information on labour statistics and indicators

  5. Information on the means of dissemination should include: • Titles • reference numbers • the dates of publication or release (printed publications) • equivalent descriptions or dates released for data submitted in other forms (ex: electronic)

  6. Information on labour statistics and indicators refers to: • Convention 160 • sources • concepts • definitions • methodology used in collecting and compiling statistics

  7. Required Metadata (resolution on the economically active population) • Every release of statistics of the economically active population, employment, unemployment, underemployment and related topics, whether reoccurring or single-time, should clearly indicated the nature of the data and make reference to any detailed technical descriptions.

  8. Recommended specifications for metadata for labour statistics - Coverage • geographic • industry • institutional sector • occupation • population groups • establishment size • other exclusions

  9. Recommended specifications for metadata for labour statistics - Method of data collection • Type of method - where the data comes from (census, survey, administrative record, other) • Methods of Estimation for sample surveys • Full description of methodology and data sources for indexes
