  1. AMAFERM® IMPROVES LIVEWEIGHT GAIN IN FEEDLOT RECEIVING DIETS Field validation test in Feedlot “Las Mercedes” (Salta, Argentina) Diego Vidart,1 Guillermo Sulekic,2 Julián Fantini,3 and Fernando Bargo4 1Private consultant in Animal Nutrition; 2Feedlot Las Mercedes; 3Nutrefeed S.A.; 4BioZyme Inc SUMMARY: the inclusion of Amaferm® en the receiving diet increased significantly the daily live weight of cattle during the first 27 days of feedlot (1.20 vs. 0.95 kg/d). Amaferm® also reduced the heterogeneity of the pen, resulting in a higher percentage of animals that gained more than 1 kg/d (66% vs. 39%). OBJECTIVE: the objective of the field test was to validate the inclusion of Amaferm® in the receiving diet of feedlot cattle and its impact on the daily live weight gain during the first 27-days reception period. FIELD TEST: the field test was conducted by private consultant Diego Vidart and beef producer Guillermo Sulekic. - 160 cattle heads of 2 different sources were assigned homogenously to 2 pens in Feedlot “Las Mercedes”, located in the Province of Salta, Argentina. - Approximately half of the animals received 3 g/d de Amaferm® (n = 83), while the other half (n = 77) did not receive Amaferm® (n = 77). Diet and management during the reception period of 27 days was the same for all animals. Reception management included the electrolytes supplementation and vaccination. Basal diet was composed by 33% corn silage, 10% oat hay, 30% corn grain, 25% soybean expeller, 2% mineral premix (without urea, with virginiamycin, Cu/Zn/Se organic minerals, vitamin E). It was balanced for 18% CP, 25% NDF, and 27% starch. - - - 1

  2. - The 160 animals were individually weighted 2 times: 1)INITIAL LIVE WEIGHT: at the beginning of the reception period (d1 = May 12th, 2018) 2)FINAL LIVE WEIGHT: 27 days after at the finishing of the reception period (d27 = June 8th, 2018) Daily live weight was calculated (DLWG, kg/d) and analyzed statistically to detect significant differences (P < 0.05; Test Tukey, InfoStat Software). - RESULTS: - Initial Live Weight: the initial live weight of the pen averaged 158 kg PV (SE 5.0 kg) and did not differ (P > 0.05) between cattle with or without Amaferm®. Daily live weight gain: after 27 days of reception, cattle receiving Amaferm® gained significantly more weight (P < 0.05): 1.20 vs. 0.95 kg/d (SE 0.04 kg/d). - 2

  3. - Homogeneity of the pen: the use of Amaferm® reduced the heterogeneity of the pen: with Amaferm® 66% of the animals gained more than 1 kg/d, while without Amaferm® only 39% of the animals gained more than that. CONCLUSIONS: the inclusion of Amaferm® in the receiving diet increased significantly the daily live weight in feedlot cattle and reduced the heterogeneity of the pen. 3
