The Conference Room • Direct glare from fixtures • Keep in compliance with luminance ratios • Luminance ratios • Luminances within immediate view should not exceed 3:1 from persons face to the background • Ratio is very important because of the facial rendering of the occupants • Ceiling uniformity • Ratio of 8:1 for uniformity of light on the ceiling not to exceed 825 Cd/m2 if less then 425 Cd/m2 the uniformity is not such an issue

  15. The Conference RoomCurrent Lighting Design Open Office area Lighting layout in conference room, curved wall faces southwest

  16. Lighting Concept • Add oval shaped cove to ceiling, use cove lights to make space more unique • Pendant fixture from cove to give light on work plane • Emphasize curve shape of room with round light fixtures • Provide proper light levels on table and peoples faces • Lighting system that will provide multiple scenes for different tasks in the space by dimming controls

  17. Possible Concept Solutions • Track fixtures • Directed towards individual seats around table • Provides key light on peoples faces • CFL Downlights • Located around room to give ambient light to space • Oval shaped cove added to ceiling • Use of cove fixtures to light ceiling above table • Pendant with direct and indirect light component • Provide light on table and ceiling for good uniform distribution • Indirect light produces good uniform distribution for facial rendering

  18. Possible Fixtures Indirect / Direct Pendant Track light Downlight Cove light

  20. Introduction to the Space • The Board Room • Located on second floor used for large board meetings • Table located in center of room surrounded by chairs • Projection screen and white board in front of room • Room Characteristics • Ceiling is 2’x2’ acoustical tile in center of room with plaster section around perimeter, Ref = 0.8 • Walls are a light beige color, Ref = 0.52 • Carpet is a gray steel color, Ref = 0.25 • Ceiling height is 9’

  21. The Board Room • Design Criteria • Integration of daylight • Large amount of windows located on north and east walls • Use of motorized shading to control amount of daylight entering space • Video Conferencing • Multi levels of light controlled by dimming switches • Facial rendering is of high importance • Close interaction between occupants • Luminance ratios between faces and background 3:1 • Horizontal illuminance • 40-50 Fc on the conference table

  22. The Board Room • Direct glare from fixtures • Keep in compliance with luminance ratios • Luminance ratios • Luminances within immediate view should not exceed 3:1 from persons face to the background • Ratio is very important because of the facial rendering of the occupants • Ceiling uniformity • Ratio of 8:1 for uniformity of light on the ceiling not to exceed 825 Cd/m2 if less then 425 Cd/m2 the uniformity is not such an issue

  23. The Board Room Current Lighting Design Windows on north and east facing walls

  24. Lighting Concept • Add rectangular cove to ceiling, use of cove lights to make space more unique • Pendant fixtures from cove to give additional light on work plane • Provide proper light level on table and peoples faces for good facing rendering • Lighting system that will provide multiple scenes for different tasks in the space by dimming controls

  25. Possible Concept Solutions • Downlights • Compact fluorescent lamps Located around room to give ambient light to space • Wallwash lenses used in downlights in front of room • Cove added to ceiling • Use of cove fixtures to light ceiling above table • Pendant with direct and indirect light component • Provide light on table and ceiling for good uniform distribution • One linear pendant or multiple round pendants • Indirect light is good for facial rendering
