Getting to know the PORT • The Port of Wilmington • full-service deepwater port and marine terminal • Over 400 vessels per year • Annual import/export cargo tonnage of over 4 million tons.  • Busiest terminal on the Delaware River. • Since 1923 • Major Mid-Atlantic import/export gateway • Where is it? • Confluence of the Delaware and Christina Rivers • 65 miles from the Atlantic Ocean • Who Runs it? • Port is owned and operated by the Diamond State Port Corporation (DSPC) • a corporate entity of the State of Delaware.

  8. DESCRIPTION • A variety of break bulk and bulk cargos move through the Port: • forest products • steel • bulk materials • petroleum products. • In recent years: • popular gateway for special projects and livestock shipments.

FRESH FRUIT • World's largest banana port • Nation's leading gateway for imports of fresh fruit and produce • Dole Fresh Fruit Company and Chiquita Fresh North America have made Wilmington their Home-Port calling • Bananas once a week, YEAR ROUND • December to April we handle Chilean table grapes, plums, peaches, nectarines, apples, pears. • Spring months the arrival of fresh apples, and pears and kiwifruit from Chile and New Zealand.    • Popular Moroccan Clementines in the fall

DOLE SHIPPING SCHEDULE • Dole Ocean Cargo Express • A Port of Wilmington customer since 1982, and in 1998 renewed its contract with the port for an additional 10 years. • In January 2000 • Dole's inaugurated the M/V Dole Chile and M/V Dole Colombia to support the weekly ship calls from Central America to Wilmington, carrying 1000 refrigerated containers each.

  11. AUTOMOBILES • Successful import/export Automotive port for over 30 years. • In 2007, over 111,000 import/export vehicles crossed Wilmington's docks for: • Volkswagen, Audi, & General Motors • Automobile shippers enjoy: • Secure and clean storage and processing facilities.
