Development of a Lightweight and Cost-Effective Motor Module for RP1 Gen 2

Our team, led by Lauren Farnsworth, is focused on creating a new motor module tailored to transport a 1kg payload. This design aims to significantly reduce weight and size compared to RP1 Gen 1 while being more cost-effective. It must pass rigorous reliability testing, be suitable for mass production, and incorporate user-friendly features. The module will include software and electronics from P09204 with infinite steering capabilities. We will utilize commercial off-the-shelf components, emphasizing open-source documentation and recognizable RP family design principles.

  2. Our Team • Team Leader • Lauren Farnsworth • General (to be decided at a later date) • Michael Egan • Matthew Missel • Gregory Leaper

  3. RP1 GEN2 • Create a motor module designed to carry 1Kg • Requirements • Design should be significantly lighter and smaller than RP1 GEN1 • Design must be more cost effective than GEN1 • Design must pass reliability testing • Design must be easily mass produced • Design must be user friendly • Must integrate software and electronics developed in P09204

  4. Customer Needs as Defined in Gen1 • Transport 1kg payload • Motors to be driven with PMW signal • Encoder feedback from drive and steering motors • Infinite steering • Open source & Open architecture – Well Documented • Use COTS components when possible • Easily recognizable as belonging to the RP family • Reflect design knowledge gained throughout the RP family • Vertical configuration of drive and steering motors • Professional quality construction • Modular design – motor modules can be interchanged • Withstand a drop test from a level equal to a table top • Meet existing regulatory and RP family constraints
