    4. USE IT: Context >= Content When the discussion around a topic is as, or more, important than the output

    5. USE IT: Sticky Knowledge ESNs persistently maintain enterprise knowledge (sans people) & solve big data problem with tags

    6. USE IT: Operational Surprise Tags, viral distribution, & interest-based organization (not project or biz-hierarchy) means idea riffing accelerates

    7. SKIP IT: Structured Hierarchical Data ESN's must co-exist with document & project management libraries (like Sharepoint)…for now

    8. SKIP IT: One-off Transactions ESN's must co-exist with Incident Management & Enterprise Chat…for now

    9. SKIP IT: Confidential Data

    10. SKIP IT: Fine-grained access controls

    11. WORK IT: Make it a top-down Priority • Leaders must use it • Middle management must get it

    12. WORK IT: Make it easy to contribute • Use a custodian program to spread the load • Use RSS feeds and Twitter cross-posts as cheats

    13. WORK IT: Ensure literacy of userbase • Likes, Shares, Follows • Personalization (pictures, bios, and newfeeds)

    14. WORK IT: Share like Mad! • Tag, tag, tag (keywords, people and spaces) • Share aggressively (lies, damn lies, and statistics….and… marketing)

    15. WORK IT: Keep it fun & rewarding • Gamify everything you can • Avoid corporate speak, but note cyberspace never forgets • Use Shout Outs!

    16. WORK IT: Building communities is hard • Know that it takes time and effort (and resources, sometimes with specialized social-media skills) • Make sure you have executive sponsorship & support
