  2. Operating CCTV equipment There is a lot of surveillance equipment that is currently used in the market. A CCTV operator must be skilled enough to operate the various gears and ensure proper monitoring of the activities going on within the premises.

  3. Fluency in handling computers • Operating the CCTV tools is not enough. In addition, the operator must have good knowledge of working with computers to maintain track of the feeds coming in from the surveillance cameras.

  4. Observation skills • As the CCTV operator will be in charge of the control room, he/she must be aware of the things to look for, where to look for and how to look for. This is necessary to help the other security operatives in charge of the premises.

  5. Being calm and focussed • Maintaining a calm and focussed outlook is of prime essence for the CCTV operators. They must not miss even the minute details and must be constantly alert at all times to prevent any malicious activities.

  6. Effective communication • The surveillance head needs to be in touch with the other security personnel as well as the higher officials to report various incidents. They must have excellent oral and written skills for the purpose.

  7. Maintaining records and evidence • The video feeds are one of the most important evidence that can turn the outcome of various incidents. As the CCTV expert is the eye of the rest of the team to help them see areas that they cannot physically reach, he must be a team player.

  10. Problem-solving analytical skills • Multiple problems can up during the job role and the SIA CCTV training courses cannot teach a candidate how to solve all the issues. The operator must have great analytical skills to solve real-life problems necessary to keep up the workflow of the employees and visitors.

Passion to work in the industry • Lastly, passion is one of the main ingredients necessary to achieve success in any career path you choose and is equally applicable for the CCTV operators as well. The candidate must be passionate to take on the challenges and responsibilities that come with the job role.
