In vitro antioxidant, antimicrobial and larvicidal studies of schiff base transition metal complexes

A series of mononuclear Schiff base transition metal complexes of the type [ML1 L 2 ] (where, M = Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) ; L1= Schiff base ligand derived from o-hydroxyacetophenone and L-cysteine; L2 = ethylenediamine) have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, molar conductance and spectroscopic studies such as UV-Visible, FTIR and EPR. A square pyramidal geometry has been assigned based on the analyses. All the synthesized complexes and the Schiff base ligand were screened for their in vitro antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli and antifungal activities against Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus and Penicillium notatum by well diffusion method. In addition, the antioxidant and larvicidal activities were also done for all the metal complexes. The percentage of antioxidant scavenging activity and mortality of the larvicidal activity were also determined.

A serie of pyrazolic heterocyclic compounds processing -NH function (1-14) have been prepared in one step by condensation of one equivalent of (3, 5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl) methanol or (1H-pyrazol-1-yl) methanol with one equivalent of appropriate primary amines. The antioxidant activities of these compounds have been investigated with the rate ranging for the best one such as the compounds 8 (96.64% at 80 mg/mL), 1 (77.31% at 80 mg/mL), 10 (71.71% at 80 mg/mL), 3 (58.79 at 80 mg/mL) and 4 (49.57% at 80 mg/mL).

Chemical Composition, Antioxidant and Antibacterial Activity of Thymelaea microphylla Essential Oil from Algeria

The chemical composition of essential oil, isolated from Thymelaea microphylla by hydrodistillation, was analysed by GC and GC/MS. A total 30 compounds representing 99.91% of the oil were identified in Dreaat population. The essential oil of T. microphylla is Characterized by a high rate of Tridecanal (31.24%), Nonanal<n-> (11.43%), Pentadecen 2-one (6Z) (7.93%) and the Citronellol (6.80%). Antioxidant capacity was determined using the method of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical. The extracts essential oil showed a good antioxidant activity. Disc diffusion method was used to evaluate the antibacterial activity on five different strains. The oil showed a significant effect against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.
