Thymidylate synthase is the important enzyme used to generate thymidine monophosphate (dTMP), which is subsequently phosphorylated to thymidine triphosphate for use in DNA synthesis and repair.. Thymidylate synthase inhibitors are chemical agents which inhibit the enzyme Thymidylate synthase and have potential as an anti-colorectal cancer chemotherapy. Pyridine and Pyrimidine derivatives are found to be the potent inhibitors of Thymidylate synthase enzyme were rapidly identified. The molecular modeling aspects of the pyridine and pyrimidine derivatives are also presented.

Antimicrobial activities of synthesized and characterized 5-acetyl pyrimidine-2, 4, 6-(1H, 3H, 5H)-trione based chalcone

A series of eleven 5-((E)-3-phenylacryloyl) pyrimidine-2, 4, 6-(1H, 3H, 5H)-triones (5-acetyl pyrimidine 2, 4, 6-(1H, 3H, 5H) trione based chalcone) were synthesized using diethylmalonate, urea, acetic anhydride and various aryl aldehydes under basic conditions afforded the 5-acetyl pyrimidine-2, 4, 6-(1H, 3H, 5H)-trione based chalcone by means of Claisen–Schmidt condensation reaction. Furthermore, there has been some additional work investigating the effect of these derivatives on biological activity. They were characterized using FT-IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The compounds show anti-fungal & antibacterial activity.
