Spectroscopic elucidation of new metal hetroscorpionates: A novel class of antifungal and antibacterial agents

Novel Transition metal complexes of an organylborate ligand, hydrobis (benzoato) (salicylylaldehyde) borate have been synthesized as its potassium salt (KL), the treatment of KL with one equivalent of MCl2.6H2O gave complexes [ML(H2O)x.Cl] (X= 2, M= Co(II), Ni(II)) and one equivalent of CuCl2.2H2O gave [CuLCl] complex. All compounds were characterized by elemental analyses, FTIR, 1H NMR, ESI MS, UV-Vis spectroscopic techniques, thermal analyses, conductivity and magnetic data measurements. On the basis of these studies, a six coordinate octahedral geometry around the Co(II), Ni(II) ions in the complexes and a four coordinate square planner around Cu(II) complex has been proposed. Antifungal and antibacterial studies were carried out by performing Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC80), Disc diffusion assay and WST1 cell cytotoxicity assay. The result showed that the test compounds possess potent anticandidial and antibacterial activities, when treated against different pathogenic fungi and bacteria.

Ultrasonic velocity and density have been measured in non- aqueous solution of the synthesized ligands viz. 5-bromosalicylidene-2-amino-4-methylbenzothiazole (BABT), 5-bromosalicylidene2-amino-4-chlorophenol (BACP) and their metal complexes with Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) in methanol at 301.15K. The value of apparent molar volume, acoustic impedance, adiabaticcompressibility, inter molecular free length and molar sound velocity (Rao’s constant) have been calculated from density and ultrasonic velocity data. The results have been discussed in the light of solvent interaction and structure effecting metal complexes.

Nickel(II) complexes have been synthesized with macrocyclic ligands 2, 7, 9, 14-tetrahydroxy phenyl-1, 3, 6, 8, 13-hexaazacycloocta decane (L1 ), 2, 7, 9, 14-tetracyclohexane-1, 3, 6, 8, 13- hexaazacyclo-octadecane(L2 ) by template method. The complexes were characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, molar conductance measurements, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR and electronic spectral studies. The complexes were found to have general compositions, [Ni(L)X2] (where L = L1 and L2 ligands, X = Cl− , NO3 − and CH3COO− ). The ligands coordinate to metal ion via four donor sites to give six coordinate complexes having octahedral geometry. The complexes were also examined for antifungal studies against pathogenic strains like Alternaria brassicae, Alternaria porri and Fusarium oxysporum. Synthesis and Characterization of Cobalt (II), Nickel (II), and Copper (II) Complexes of Some 2'- Hydroxychalcones

A series of metal complexes of Co (II), Ni (II) and Cu (II) have been synthesized with newly synthesized biologically active ligands. These ligands were prepared by the condensation of substituted 2'- Hydroxyacetophenones and 3, 5 dibromosalicylaldehyde. The structures of the complexes have been proposed by the analytical data, conductivity measurement, magnetic moment, IR, electronic spectral data and thermal studies. Analytical data confirmed 1:2 stoichiometry and the electronic spectral data suggest that all Co (II), Ni (II) complexes have octahedral geometry whereas Cu (II) complexes have square planar geometry. Presence of coordinated water molecules in Co (II) and Ni (II) complexes is confirmed by TGA studies. The conductivity data show that all these complexes are non electrolytes.

Similar compounds arylazobis-acetoximes developed by Bamberger and subsequently used by Sogani & Bhattacharaya as spectrophotometric reagents for determination of various transition metals such as cobalt, iron and copper. In the present paper m-chlorophenylazo-bis-acetoxime (m-CPABA) has besen used for spectrophotometric determination of nickel (II).

Solvent Extraction and Spectrophotometric Determination of Nickel II using 2 - Hydroxy 1 Naphthaldehyde Thiosemicarbazon

2 hydroxy 1 naphthaldehyde thiosemicarbazone HNT is synthesized in laboratory and characterized by NMR, IR and elemental analysis for its purity. This reagent forms a yellowish green coloured complex with Ni II which can be quantitatively extracted into ethyl acetate at pH 7. Complex in ethyl acetate shows an intense absorption peak 430 nm. It is observed that Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 10u00b5-g to 100u00b5-g of metal solution. It gives linear and reproducible graph under appropriate conditions, the complex having a molar absorptivity of 0.275 x 10 6L mol 1 cm 1, Sandell's sensitivity calculated was found to be 0.275 x 102 u00b5-g cm 2 .Nature of the extracted complex, determined by Job's continuous variation method, Slope ratio method and Mole ratio method shows that the composition of Ni II HNT is 1 1. Interference by various ions is studied and masking agents used where required. The proposed method has been applied for the determination of Ni II in various samples. The results of the analysis are found to be comparable with those obtained by standard method.
