Artists And Oxford Pupils Brighten Up Marston Underpass With New Mural For over 12 years I've been painting big murals that are commissioned in and around Bristol. The neighborhood mural movement, which started in the 1960's, generated hundreds upon hundreds of large scale wall paintings at under a decade. Nearly every city had a few, such as Indianapolis, although they were concentrated in towns. These were sparked by community development programs, labour movements, the Chicano movement, and the civil rights movement. Hispanic muralists like Diego Rivera, Clemente Orozco, David Sequeiros, and Arnold Belkin influenced content and the style of those murals. They were also affected by graffiti and from advertising art.
