Ajmer was then occupied by Muhammad of Ghor, who lost it to the ruler of Mewar in 1365. After years of disputation, the Marwar sovereign took control of this place in 1532. Thereafter, the city was hand over to the Mughals in 1559, followed by the Marathas in 1770. This city was sold to the British in 1818, but the city resumed its past status after independence. In 1956, it finally became a part of Rajasthan.
