In the first week of September 2014, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Ono Pharmaceutical launched their PD-1 (programmed cell death-1) inhibitor Opdivo (nivolumab) in Japan for unresectable melanoma. Later, Merck got FDA clearance for PD-1 inhibitor Keytruda (pembrolizumab) for unresectable melanoma following the treatment with Yervoy (ipilimumab).
