Spectrophotometric analysis of a mixture of glyburide and metformin HCl in pharmaceutical preparations

Two simple and rapid spectrophotometric methods were developed for the resolution and analysis of the binary mixture of glyburide (GB) and metformin HCl (MF) in tablets. The first method, zero-crossing first derivative spectrophotometry, depends on measuring the first derivative values at 314.7 nm for GB and 228.6 nm for MF. The second method, ratio first derivative spectrophotometry, depends on measuring the amplitudes of the first derivative of the ratio spectra at 314.7 nm for GB and 238.0 nm for MF. The calibration graphs were linear over the range of 10-125 µg/mL for GB and 2-18 µg/mL for MF. The proposed methods were applied successfully to the assay of these drugs in commercial tablets. The developed methods were able to solve the problem arising from the coformulation of GB and MF in the ratio of 2.5:500, 5:500 or 2.5:400 (w/w), respectively in addition to the increase of the specific absorbance of MF (the major component) over that of GB (the minor component). The results were statistically compared with those obtained using a reference HPLC method and were found to be in good agreement.

Synthesis, 1H NMR Study and Crystal determination of 7-Benzoyloxycoumarin

The title compound, 7-benzoyloxycoumarin, C16H10O4, crystallizes into monoclinic space group P2(1) with unit-cell parameter: a = 3.8479(7), b = 27.693(5), c = 5.7259(10) Aο . Z = 2. The crystal structure was solved by direct methods and refined to a final R-value of 0.0535 for 3295 observed reflection. The benzoyloxy ring present on 7- position was found to be almost coplanar with coumarin. The structure is stabilized by vander Waal’s interactions. The structure of this compound was also established by 1H NMR spectrum of its solution in CDCl3.

Electronic applications of 8-HQ5-SAOF terpolymer resin

Terpolymer resin was synthesized by the condensation of 8-hydroxyquinoline5-sulphonic acid (8- HQ5-SA) and oxamide (O) with formaldehyde (F) in the presence of 2M HCl as catalyst with molar ratios of 1:1:2 reacting monomers. The electrical property of 8-HQ5-SAOF terpolymer resin was measured over a wide range of temperature (313 – 423 K). From the electrical conductivity of this terpolymer resin, activation energy of electrical conduction has been evaluated and was found to be 1.23 x 10-4 eV. The electrical conductivity of the terpolymer resin was found to be lies in the range of 3.95 x 10 -9 to 2.77 x 10-5 ohm-1 cm -1. The plot of log σ vs. 103 / T was found to be linear over a wide range of temperature, which indicates that the Wilson’s exponential law σ = σo exp (Ea / k T) is obeyed. On the basis of above studies this terpolymer can be ranked as semiconductor. When a voltage is applied to a thin film of this terpolymer resin then it has emitted light. This remarkable property of this terpolymer resin may be used to make a wide range of semiconducting and electronics electronic devices such as transistors, light emitting diodes, solar cells and even lasers which can be manufactured by much simpler way than conventional inorganic semiconductors.
