Oxford And artists Pupils Brighten Up Marston Underpass With New Mural For 12 years I've been painting commissioned murals that are big in and around Bristol. The community mural movement, which began from the 1960's, generated countless hundreds of large scale wall paintings at under a decade. They were concentrated in cities, but every city had a few, including Indianapolis. These were sparked by the Chicano movement, labor movements, the civil rights movement, and community improvement programs. Hispanic muralists such as Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera, David Sequeiros, and Arnold Belkin influenced the content and style of those murals. Graffiti and by advertising artwork also affected them.
