Breast cancer is characterized by uncontrolled growth of cancerous cells in the breast. It occurs in both males and females, however, the incidence of breast cancer in males is rare. HER-2 positive breast cancers have a tendency to spread and metastasize more rapidly than HER-2 negative breast cancers. HER-2 positive breast cancer is more prevalent in females than males. In 2012, GLOBOCAN reported that breast cancer accounted for 11.9 percent of the total number of cancer cases and led to 522,000 deaths worldwide. HER-2 positive breast cancer accounts for almost 25 percent of all types of breast cancer.
