  2. What is the Lagaylay? A devotion to the Holy Cross consisting of a series of prayers written in verses Are-enactment of the discovery of the Holy Cross by St. Helena which is sang and danced It is performed for nine nights with a novena to the Holy Cross

  3. What is its current status? The Lagaylay Festival started in 1858 and starts on the third day of May, which is believed to be the day of the finding of the Holy Cross. It ends on the eleventh.

  4. How did the Lagaylay start? It originated in Canaman, Camarines Sur in 1858 As far as the old folks could remember, Maestro Gaspar Advincula was the earliest known trainor of the Lagaylay assisted by Maestro Antero Gomez and Maestro SabasChica

  5. What are the parts partsof the Lagaylay? 1) Timbaco - The participants sing in chorus to invite all to praise and honor the Cross. Each pair will take turns glorifying the Cross. When everyone has honored the Cross, the Sta. Elena gives petition and asks for favors free the Cross through intercession of Blessed Virgin Mary. 2) Duyag – Both “Paraduyag” and Sta. Elena hold their flags high oowand weaving them to show victory and joy for having found the cross. 3) Offering of the Crown – It is a manifestation of humility, ooorreverenceand love for the Cross; Sta. Elena offers her crown as her ooorwillingnessto surrender her wealth, honor and fame for the greater ooorgloryof God – a model of the true Christian faith.

  6. What are the parts ofthe Lagaylay? 4) Passion– The Responde sing the passion of Christ. It reminds us of our Jesus Christ action to redeem mankind. 5) Coronation of Sta. Elena – Sta. Elena deserves much honor as queen for being faithful to her devotion in the mysterious search for the Cross and was given the privilege to find it. 6) Danza– This includes the offering of flowers, singing and dancing, a symbolic of great joy and happiness, and an expression to exalt the Cross which liberated mankind from sickness, sin, evil and death and the triumph of the reign of goodness, the Kingdom of God.
