  16. Benefits of online services Benefits to the patient – general and with focus on Long Term Condition patients Benefits to the practice – general Benefits to practice nurses Benefits to nurses in the community and other care settings

  17. Benefits of GP Online Services for Patients Access to information, appointments and prescriptions at home and abroad 24/7 ability to share information, data and test results with different healthcare professionals in different care settings convenient and easy to use prescription ordering services Improved patient satisfaction/ patient experience

  18. Quick look: repeat prescriptions A patient remembers they need to order their repeat prescription on a Sunday afternoon when their practice is closed. Thanks to GP online services that patient can order their prescription online at the click of a button. Benefits realised if patient has access to GP online services repeat prescription ordering: Reduction in clinical appointments for repeat prescriptions Reduced stress for patients in having to remember to put in prescriptions during GP opening hours Reduced visits to practice to drop off paper prescription

  19. Quick look: appointment booking When booking an appointment at the GP practice, patients are often asked by reception staff why they need an appointment so they can direct the patient to the appropriate healthcare professional. This process can put patients off from accessing the care they need due to anxiety around sharing their personal information about their health. Benefits realised if patient has access to GP online services appointment booking: Better access for patients thanks to 24/7 access to appointment booking and cancelling Anonymity for the patient when booking the appointment online Reduce the number of calls to practice and therefore the pressure on reception staff The right patients are able to get the right care at the right time

  20. Quick look: community care What’s the issue? Healthcare professionals working in the community are doing so without always having all the information they need at hand to provide the best care to patients. How can GP online services help? If a patient is able to access their GP record and repeat prescription lists via an app or website on their mobile or computer, they can share that information with the healthcare professional providing them with care in the community. Scenario 1 – nurse in the community, home visit. Hello, before we get started today – what medication do you take at the minute? Erm…

  21. What can practice nurses do to help implement online services? • Encourage the practice management to put nursing appointments online • Ensure that appointments on the system are named appropriately so patients can access them easily • Promote the programme within the nursing team and wider practice team
