Dive into the world of leaves in this 6th-grade art project! Discover how leaves function as food factories through photosynthesis, the cycle of converting water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and sugar. Explore why leaves change color in the fall as chlorophyll production slows down. Get creative by drawing a collage of various leaves on paper, adding details with colored pencils, and giving them vibrant colors with watercolor. Embrace the beauty of nature and learn through hands-on art creation.

Fall Leaves in Watercolor 6th Grade Art
What are leaves all about? • Leaves are little food factories! • Cycle of the Leaf: • Take water from the ground • Take Carbon Dioxide from the air • Sunlight: water + Carbon Dioxide= Oxygen and sugar • Sugar becomes food for leaf, Oxygen becomes “food” for us! • This cycle is called photosynthesis
Green thumb • A chemical called chlorophyll helps photosynthesis happen • This gives the leaves their green color in the summer!
Why do leaves turn colors in the fall? • In the autumn, the nights become longer so the leaves get less sunlight • This slowly stops the creation of Chlorophyll • The yellows, reds, and oranges then come out to shine!
