  5. ـ بِسْمِ الِلّهِ كَلِمَةِ الْمُعْتَصِمِينَ • “In the name of Allah (S.W.T), the word of those who hold fast to Him”. • So we start in the name of Allah (swt)… everything when it starts with the name of Allah (S.W.T), ends with the blessings of Allah (S.W.T), anything you do, eat, drink, sit, stand, where ever there is name of Allah (S.W.T) then there is always agood ending…..you might go through a little bit of challenges, but as long as you started with the name of Allah (S.W.T). Allah (S.W.T) never allows the harm to afflict you, if there is little bit harm, then there is benefit in it, for you.

  6. بِسْمِ الِلّهِ كَلِمَةِ الْمُعْتَصِمِينContinued • BISMILAHIL LAZI LA YADURU MA ISMIHII SHAI (in the name of Allah the one which does not let harm come to existence with his name) Saying of Imam Sadiq (A.S), that may Allah condemn those people who abandon those greatest verses of Allah (S.W.T) which is BISMILAHIR RAHMANER RAHEEM. • Kalima: word, phrase • Muta’’simin comes from E’tisama : holding to something, Like wrist is Ma’saam. Isma is infallibility, protection from falling in to sin, Masooom is infallible.

  7. بِسْمِ الِلّهِ كَلِمَةِ الْمُعْتَصِمِينContinued • When prophet Nuh said “Get in the ark my son” Prophet Nuh’s son said “SA’AWII ILA JABAL YA’SIMONI” ( I will go to the highest mountain in the flooded area, it will protect me, prevent me from flood). Prophet said LA ASIMA LAKAL YOOUM Min AMIRILAH (the wrath of Allah, the punishment, there is no way you can escape). Allah(SWT) has decided there is going to be a flood, so even the mountains are going to be drowned in water.

  8. بِسْمِ الِلّهِ كَلِمَةِ الْمُعْتَصِمِينContinued • So prophet NUH, when he was inviting his son to come in the ark, its not that he is a sinner, then he is going to be saved. Prophet Nuh submits to the will of Allah (S.W.T), and that was the last propagation that prophet wanted to offer him, that coming in to the arch means that you believe in Allah, and abandoned idol worship. But his son said “no I’m going to stick to my faith and belief, and go to the top of the mountain, it will protect me”.

  9. بِسْمِ الِلّهِ كَلِمَةِ الْمُعْتَصِمِينContinued • So BISMILAH the name of Allah (S.W.T) is a word, word for who? its all those who seek protection in their words, meaning if you want to seek protection from evil, hardship, from problem, than BISMILAH is the word which you have use. • In different grammatical pattern, BISMILAH is the word for all those who seek protection, another grammatical pattern says that Allah is of those who seek protection. It doesn’t have that much of a big difference.

  10. وَمَقالَةِ الْمُتَحَرِّزِينَ • “Speech or saying of those who seek prevention.” • MAQALA is from QOWL, Qowl is saying, or the speech. Like HIRZ is taweez, people make taweez just to protect themselves from evil. • Again we come back to BISMILAH… either BISMILAH is MAQALATIL MUTAHARIZEEN or ALLAH is MAQALATIL MUTAHARIZEEN. Hirz is from Avoidance, keep something away. IHTARIZ: seek something which will keep u away from evil.

  11. وَمَقالَةِ الْمُتَحَرِّزِينَContinued • Hirz is something you keep with you, for example a gun is a hirz ….why ? because if you have it with you, you can prevent your self from evil with it. Ta’weez is the name of Allah that you keep with you in your pocket or necklaces, and they call it Hirz, because it keeps the evil away from them. But HUSN is when you go inside something, like a house or palace or fortress. So here, the name of Allah (S.W.T) is the best Ta’weez.

  12. وَأَعُوذُ بِالِلّه تَعالى مِنْ جَوْرِ الْجآئِرِينَ • Imam mentions “ I seek refuge to Allah (S.W.T) exalted from the injustice of the unjust.” • ISTIA’ZA means you seek refuge to Allah (S.W.T). You become MASOOM with the name of Allah (S.W.T). So you seek refuge to Allah to get this protection, Hirz. Taa’la comes from Exalted. (No one is more greater than Allah(S.W.T)…..he is the greatest of the greatest ).

  13. وَأَعُوذُ بِالِلّه تَعالى مِنْ جَوْرِ الْجآئِرِينَContinued • Whenever we write Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W)’s name, we write SWAAD , whenever we write name of Infallible (A.S) we write A’YN , many people when they write Allah, they don’t write anything, many Maraja3 consider it as Disrespect , so whenever you write Allah (S.W.T), write SEEN. • So Imam is seeking refuge to Allah from what?? He is not asking Allah directly (S.W.T), but he is asking indirectly. After the Hamd (praise), after sending blessing to prophet (S.A.W), he then asks what he wants. At this point Imam is still in the flow of introduction, and not addressing/ asking Allah (S.W.T).

  14. وَأَعُوذُ بِالِلّه تَعالى مِنْ جَوْرِ الْجآئِرِينَContinued • JAWR is tyranny of the tyrants, injustice of the unjust. Imam (as) is giving an indirect message to the tyrants, that “see tyrants….you guys think you are great, you guys think you have all the power…but I have the power of Allah (S.W.T), I seek refuge from Allah (S.W.T) from your tyranny. So don’t try to bully me…because I have Allah (swt) with me” …Example Imam Hussain (A.S) they tried to bully him, but Imam (A.S) did not run away, he faced them and he became martyred and challenged them.

  15. وَأَعُوذُ بِالِلّه تَعالى مِنْ جَوْرِ الْجآئِرِينَContinued (1) Imam Is seeking refuge to Allah (S.W.T) (2) it’s an indirect communication to Allah (S.W.T) at this point. (3) Perhaps he is giving direction to the tyrants to let them know that I’m not afraid of you. (4) Those people who betrayed Imam Hussain (A.S), gave themselves to the tyrants, so Imam is telling them to Seek refuge to Allah (S.W.T) from the tyrants and their tyrannies, why are you afraid, why do you give your selves up? Just be with Allah (S.W.T), connect with Allah (S.W.T). Do not fear anything other than Allah (S.W.T) and his punishment and his Wrath.

  16. ، وَكَيْدِ الْحاسِدِينَ • “The plots of those who Envy” or “Trickery of envier” Kaid is plots, trickery. INAHU MIN KAIDI NISAA ( it is from the plots of the woman’s) INAA KAIDUL HUNAL ADHEEM ( the plots of women are great, so be careful) Quran says in Surah Yousuf (A.S), In the story of women they tried to plot make plots against Yosuf (A.S) and tried to drag him towards wrong directions. Haseedeen: Envier, envy is something which exist, Hasad is something which exist, if it did not exist than Allah (S.W.T) would not have told us to seek refuge to him from the HASAD

  17. وَكَيْدِ الْحاسِدِينَContinued • Remember Surah Al Falaq. QUL AOZOBI RABIL FALAK ( I'm seeking refuge to the Lord of the Split, from the evil of his creations ) MIN SHARI MA KHALAQ, WA MIN SHARI GASIQIN IZA WAQAB ( and from the evil of the darkness when it takes over ) WAMIN SHARI NAFASATI FIL OUQAD ( and from the evil of those who break the relation) WAMIN SHARI HASIDIN IZA HASAD ( I'm seeking refuge to Allah (S.W.T) from the evil of the envier of the envy)

  18. وَكَيْدِ الْحاسِدِينَContinued • For example we know that jinn exist, and they are in Surah Jinn and surah namal and many more surah in which Allah (S.W.T) talks about the jinn and their existence and how they can cause good and harm. We have a barrier between Jinn and Us, they cannot come cross that barrier and harm us. Unless if few things happen consistency in impurity the najasat. In a way that a person starts to violate the name of Allah (S.W.T) with the impurity, that sometimes it opens the portal of evil creatures to come and harm. Another example if someone looks at something in astonishment, and mesmerizing, and impressed way, it opens the portal from the barrier and the evil jinn comes and causes harm. That’s why we say Mashallah, or La Hawla Wala Quwata Ila Bilaah or Aoozobilah. This blocks the portal.

  19. وَبَغْيِ الظَّالِمِين • “And the oppression of the wrong doers” • BAGHI is from BAGHWA means something overflows, over limit, crosses the limit. • ADIL is a person who is just, who knows his limit, who does not cross his limit. • DHALIM is an unjust person, or a tyrant, who crosses the limit and does unjust, and oppression.

  20. وَأَحْمَدُهُ فَوْقَ حَمْدِ الْحامِدِينَ • (Now Imam starting to praise ) • “And I praise him beyond the praise of the praisers” • Ahmaduhu: I praise him. • Fowqa: Above. • Hamdil Hamideen: Praise of those who praise. • Let’s see Who praises Allah (S.W.T)?? The righteous ones, nice people the infallible, the prophets and the imam, even the non-living things to us are living to Allah (S.W.T), so he is praising Allah (S.W.T) above the praise of everything.

  21. أَللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْواحِدُ بِلا شَرِيك • “Oh Allah you are the One there is no partner for you“ • Imam wants to say you are the alone who could help me out you don’t need anybody to help me out, you don’t need any partner to help me out. • IYAKA NA3BUD (you only we worship) • WA IYAKA NASTAEEN (You only we beseech help)

  22. وَالْمَلِكُ بِلا تَمْلِيك • “And you are king without anybody giving you the kingdom” • you have the kingdom you created the kingdom, you were king before your kingdom and king after your kingdom and your king above your kingdom. Without anybody making you a king, you are the king.

  23. لا تُضَادُّ فِي حُكْمِك • “No one Oppose you in your ruling” • When you give ruling there is no contradiction in you ruling and no one can oppose you in your decision, judgment, and ruling. • TUDAD is DHIDH: Opposite

  24. وَلا تُنازَعُ فِي مُلْكِكَ • “ And no body contest you in your kingdom” • For Example: a king dies leaving two sons , now these two sons are fighting each other on the kingdom, now they are contesting each other, fighting for it. So Imam (A.S) saying Ya Allah your kingdom is one, you are the king no body can oppose you, no body can fight you in your kingdom.

  25. Now Imam asking his Hajat • Before his hajat he was teaching us. • 1) To inspire further thanks . • 2) To help him in the worshiping him. • 3) To help him stay away from the sins . • 4) To help in whatever benefits him. • 5) To expand his heart with Quran. • 6) Security in religion and self. • 7) Protection from loneliness. • 8) Continuing the benevolence.

  26. أَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّىَ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ • “ I ask you to Send blessing on Muhammad (S.A.W) and his household, your servant and you messenger” • If you send salwat to Muhammad (S.A.W) and his household, then Allah will not reject you DUA.

  27. وَأَنْ تُوزِعَنِي مِنْ شُكْرِ نُعْماكَ ما تَبْلُغُ بِي غايَةَ رِضاكَ • “And you inspire me from thanking your bounties and blessings, let me thank you the more I thank you, it’s not going to end” • Imam is mentioning that we always need to be in an appreciating mood, why? Because Allah (S.W.T) has given us a lot he has given us more than what we deserve. He has given in a way that we can never ever thank Allah (S.W.T) properly, as we mention the Oxygen which we inhale, food, drink, nice people around us. Example; Imam Hussain (A.S) the world is falling apart on him yet he is in a thankful situation, he is serving Allah (S.W.T) in his mission. Another example Prophet Ayuub, the balaa are falling on him, his children died, his relative got diseases, lost his wealth, yet he is thankful to Allah (S.W.T). Prophet Ayuub sees that the more he is patience, in the afflictions and the trials of Allah (S.W.T), he needs to Thank Allah that he did not deviate, he did not slip to the path of the shaitan. The more you observe patient in your trials, the more you need to thank Allah (S.W.T).

  28. وَأَنْ تُوزِعَنِي مِنْ شُكْرِ نُعْماكَ ما تَبْلُغُ Continued بِي غايَةَ رِضاكَ • Example Imam Ali (A.S) his head is split into two, blood flowing out of head, everybody is crying and he is pleased he says FUSTU WA RABIL KAABA ( By the Lord of the Kaa’aba I succeeded). Our Aiimah (A.S) they always express their thanks to Allah (S.W.T). The first thing they will ask is that Ya Allah (S.W.T) do not deprive me from thanking you and also they will teach us, there is an indirect message for us that we need to ask Allah (S.W.T) to make us thankful servants of Allah (S.W.T).

  29. وَأَنْ تُوزِعَنِي مِنْ شُكْرِ نُعْماكَ ما تَبْلُغُ Continued بِي غايَةَ رِضاكَ • Two points from this: 2. We have a dua in Quran, RABI AWZIANI UN ASKHURA N3MATAKAL LATI ANAMTA ALAIYA WA ALA WALIDAI WA’AN AAMALA SALIHAN TARDHA WA IDKHILNI BIRAHMATIKA EBADAS SALEHEEN YA AYATUHAL NAFSUL MUTMAINA, IRJA ILA RABIKI RADHIYATAN MARDIYA (Oh Allah (S.W.T) inspire me, bring it into my mind, to thank you for your bounties that you have given me and on my parents and let me do good deed which pleases you and let me enter by your mercy not by my deeds amongst your pious servants in the hereafter oh the satisfying soul, return to your lord, who Allah (S.W.T) is pleased with you and you are pleased with Allah (S.W.T) ).

  30. وَأَنْ تُوزِعَنِي مِنْ شُكْرِ نُعْماكَ ما تَبْلُغُ Continued بِي غايَةَ رِضاكَ 2. The more we thank Allah (S.W.T) , we need to thank Allah on the thanks he inspired us. Appreciating Allah (S.W.T) the doors of Allah (S.W.T) opens, before I even ask Allah, I need to ask in a way that “Ya Allah I have so many things you have given me, but I need this thing if you can give me as well” Like I have 90% of the things and I thank you Allah for the 90%, but if you give me 10% of it, I would greatly appreciate it. Many times people do duaa in an opposite way “ Ya Allah I don’t have anything why you deprived me, I have nothing give me this.” These people are blind they don’t see what Allah (S.W.T) has given them; they only see what Allah (S.W.T) has not given them.

  31. وَأَنْ تُعِينَنِي عَلى طاعَتِكَ • “Help me to obey you” • ISTAEEN is from EANA: Help me. Here Imam is asking help in three things: • (1) Help me in worshipping you, when Allah (S.W.T) commands you, we have to obey Allah( S.W.T) we have to offer our salah, fasting and all kinds of things which are beneficial for us. Some times shaitan comes and makes us sloppy, tired, not wanting to worship and serve Allah (S.W.T). When shaitan becomes a deviator, Allah (S.W.T) can help you fulfill your duties and responsibilities, and helps you in serving him. Allah (S.W.T). I have physical ability but shaitan comes and messes up my metaphysical system, my spirit, and my nafs. I try my best but I want your help in that metaphysical area and the physical area as well.

  32. ، وَلُزُومِ عِبادَتِك • “Holdfast to Worshiping you” • (2) You help me worship you, but now consistency is required, I don’t want you to help me today and abandon me tomorrow. I want you to help me in consistency in worshipping you. • LOOZOOM: not leaving, continuously

  33. وَاسْتِحْقاقِ مَثُوبَتِكَ بِلُطْفِ عِنايَتِكَ • “Help me be worth to deserve your reward “ISTIHQAAQ: worth. LUTF is from LATEEF: Light, gentle. ENAYATIKA: care. Help me deserve your reward because I by myself cannot deserve your reward unless you have with your mercy and with your gentleness. (3) To be worth of your reward but how? You need something which makes you worth of Allah (S.W.T) reward, which is the gentle care, passion, mercy of Allah (S.W.T). Why? Without that I will not deserve anything, I’m not worth of any reward, because my salat in which thoughts and mind goes here and there, due to shaitan. Or because of Zaakat or Khums which I try to runaway and find escape routes, in order not to pay.

  34. Continuedوَاسْتِحْقاقِ مَثُوبَتِكَ بِلُطْفِ عِنايَتِكَ • Example of this Great Scholar, who use to do a lot of activity day and night, writing books, giving lecture, serving Allah (S.W.T), so he use to say ILAHII AAMILNII BIADLIK, (Oh God treat me with your justice) One day he was doing studies on his desk and saw an insect poked it unintentionally and started barbequing on the candle. He slept after and saw that day of judgment is held, and they bring him and say now it’s about time we put a rod in your stomach and heat you up in hell fire, so he started saying ILAHII AAMILNII BIADLIK, where is your justice??? So the angels said this is the justice. Why, because the insect. Justice means every little and big thing needs to be taken care of. So he woke up saying these words ILAHII AAMILNII BIAFWIK, WALA TUAMILNI BIADLIK (oh my god, treat me with your forgiveness and pardon and do not treat me with your justice).

  35. Continuedوَاسْتِحْقاقِ مَثُوبَتِكَ بِلُطْفِ عِنايَتِكَ • Example of a scholar who was worshipping day and night. So when he died his son saw him in dream, and said father how is everything? He said everything was wonderful but there was a situation when I was in the grave, these angels they came and they said that now you are good to go, but we need to open the gates of paradise for you, but we need a pure good deed. So he said Allhumdulilah I have many good deeds, I wrote this book, but angel said no, that was for showoff…..and after listing, than he said I don’t have any pure good deed. I’m stuck in the grave, so they said no… there is something that you did… one day you had a desire to have a fruit and you were coming out of masjid they distributed that fruit, and what happened was, that while you were coming out, there was a poor and you restrained yourself, and gave it to the poor for the sake of Allah (S.W.T), and you forgot about it….well, that is the key to the paradise.

  36. وَتَرْحَمَنِي • “And have mercy upon me Ya Allah (S.W.T)” وَتَصُدَّنِي عَنْ مَعَاصِيكَ مَا أَحْيَيْتَنِي • “Prevent me from disobeying you as long as I make me live” • SAA’DI : stop me , preventing me. • I’m asking Allah (S.W.T) to put a barrier between me and the forbidden act, disobedience act. (Sins) as long as you keep me alive.

  37. وَتُوَفِّقَنِي لِما يَنْفَعُنِي ما أَبْقَيْتَنِي • “Give me success of whatever benefits me, as long as you keep me alive on this Earth. • TOWFEEQ: success • BAQA: remaining.

  38. وَأَنْ تَشْرَحَ بِكِتابِكَ صَدْرِي • “Let my heart expand, with your book (Holy Quran). • SHARH: open • Like if you want explanation of something encrypted, UN code something, elaborate, open up the encrypted sentence. Expanding of the heart could mean (1) emotionally, like I’m tired, exhausted, depressed, so you recite the Quran, your heart becomes satisfied, relaxed, relieved, as mentioned in the Quran AALA BIZIKRILAHI TATMAINAL QULOOB (isn’t it with the Mentioning of Allah (S.W.T) the hearts gets satisfied.)

  39. وَأَنْ تَشْرَحَ بِكِتابِكَ صَدْرِيContinued • (2) The darkness of the ignorance, so let my heart become open, with the light and knowledge of Quran, how does that happen? By pondering into the ayat of the Quran. When you heart gets enlighten, that means you get knowledge. (3) Faith, Emaan, our emaan is like a plant, it continuously needs watering the time we stop watering the eman starts to fade out and disappear. Recitation of the Quran has metaphysical power with spiritual light; the light connects to your heart. Quran is like a battery charger. You will see how your faith gets charged. Spiritually connected to Allah (S.W.T). Whenever Allah (S.W.T) word touches you soul, you get clean up like a vacuum cleaner affect, all yours sins get dropped of.

  40. وَتَحُطَّ بِتِلاوَتِهِ وِزْرِي • “And let my burden fall down by reciting the book (QURAN)” Burden could be Sin, could be emotional distress, burden of darkness, also it could be burden of weakness of the faith. • HUTTU: drop or keep • WIZR: burden

  41. وَتَمْنَحَنِي السَّلامَةَ فِي دِينِي وَنَفْسِي • “Bestow upon me health in my religion and soul”. • Now Imam ask Allah (S.W.T) • YAMNAHU: give, gift. • SALAMA: security and peace. • Security in what? Security in my religion, and my nafs and myself, means prevention from disease problems, defect.

  42. وَلا تُوحِشَ بِي أَهْلَ أُنْسِي • “Those people whom I feel comfort with do not separate me from my believed ones” • UNS: comfort, beloved ones, tranquility.

  43. وَتُتِمَّ إحْسَانَكَ فِيما بَقِيَ مِنْ عُمُرِي • “Complete your favors upon me in what ever is remaining from my life” • Ya Allah you have bestowed upon me favors after favors, you have shown me beneficence, complete it Ya Allah do not stop your ehsan from me as long as I live. You have been very great to me, very kind to me, very generous to me, complete these favors, and do not disconnect these favors from me. • TAMAM: complete

  44. كَما أَحْسَنْتَ فِيما مَضَى مِنْهُ يا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ • “As you have bestowed upon me favors in my past of my life time, oh the most merciful of those who show mercy”

  45. END OF DUA
