The occurrence of elder abuse is an unfortunate reality and much of this abuse can be prevented with family and public awareness and education. Here is a whittled list of a few tips and facts to stop elder abuse.

Elder Abuse

Aging with each day, elders become more physically frail and have less strength in mind and body to stand up against bullying and or fight back if attacked. Every single day, most seniors around the world are armed in some substantial way by people who are directly responsible for their care.

Types of Elder Abuse

  • Physical abuse
  • Emotional abuse
  • Neglect or abandonment by caregivers
  • Financial exploitation
  • Healthcare fraud and abuse

Preventative Measures

  • Invite them to a family activity like a grandchild’s soccer match or other sporting event.
  • Encourage and educate your children about identifying seniors as a valuable resource for school projects.
  • Have an objective third party look over financial statements.
  • Find an adult day care program
