  2. THE WAR ON TOBACCO Tobacco related illnesses kill more people than alcohol, AIDS, car accidents, illegal drugs, murders, and suicides combined.

  3. Cigarettes contain many toxic ingredients & chemicals like: What’s in a Cigarette? ACETONE--found in Nail Polish Remover AMMONIA--found in Toilet Bowl Cleaner ARSENIC--found in Rat Poison LEAD -- found in old paint TAR—sticky substance used to pave roads.

  4. What’s in a Cigarette? NICOTINE ! ! ! A HIGHLY ADDICTIVE DRUG! ALL tobacco products contain nicotine!

  16. Secondhand Smoke Non-smokers who breathe in SHS take in nicotine and toxic chemicals the same way smokers do. Exposure to SHS can cause:  asthma  bronchitis  pneumonia  respiratory infections  ear infections

  17. Secondhand Smoke There is NO safe level of smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke.

  18. Straw Breathing Activity Remember what collects in your lungs when you use tobacco? Let’s see how it feels by placing a straw in your mouth, holding your nose, and running in place. Smokers run slower and can’t run as far.

  22. Cost of Tobacco Use The cost of a pack of cigarettes ranges from $4.00 to $11.00 How much would you spend? Do the math!!!

  23. Cost of Tobacco Use $35/week $5 per pack x 7 days = $35 per week x 4 weeks = $140 per month x 12 months = $1,680 per year x 10 years = $140/month $1,680/year $16,800 Wow! That’s a lot of money!

  25. Marketing Tobacco-The Power of Advertising In just one hour — the time it takes to present Tar Wars to your classroom— the tobacco industry will spend more than $1 million on marketing created to get people to start using their products.

  26. Marketing Tobacco-The Power of Advertising Tobacco companies introduce products that are packaged to look and taste like candies, mints, and gum to entice young buyers. . They must think you are not very smart!

  27. Marketing-Movies, Television & The Internet 82% of PG-13 rated movies show tobacco use. TV shows do it too!   29. Marketing-Movies, Television & The Internet The TRUTH is…… The TRUTH is…… Tobacco companies don’t want you to know the truth! Using tobacco is NOT cool. It is gross and disgusting. Tobacco can make you sick. Or even kill you.
