Powder Coating and Curing Process Ovens Most of the industries engaged in the production of auto parts, chemical processing, and electronics require equipments which can handle high temperatures while they are processing metals or chemicals in the factory. To handle such high consistent temperatures industrial ovens are used. The functioning of industrial ovens depends largely on the usage. They can be operated using gas, electricity, steam, microwaves and hot water. The air flow pattern and the product loading are critical matters in these ovens which determine the success rate. Forced convection oven allows the heat to be evenly distributed. One of the broadly used processes is powder curing, which use specifically designed Powder curing ovens. Powder Curing Process There are three basic steps of powder coating. All materials have to undergo these processes, firstly being surface preparation, then the powder coating application and lastly heat curing. This is generally a dry finishing process, which is used to applying a dry coating material, which is then heat cured using high temperature industrial ovens. The high temperatures of approximately 350 degrees to 400 degree Fahrenheit is applied for at 10 to 20 Minutes, which in turn help the synthetic polymer chains present in the powder coating to fuse with each other and cross linking happens, making the product surface tough and rugged. Although Powder coating is not as strong as Epoxy coating but still provides several benefits. The powder finishes are stronger and long-lasting then multiple coats of paint. There are two types of powder coating ovens are available, thermosets and thermoplastics. These ovens have considerable distance between the metals to avoid contact with each other in the interior and exterior surfaces. It will have UL listed Control Panel and adjustable louvers for directing processed air. For safeguarding there will be airflow switches and high limit thermostats. Importance of powder curing Powder coating is an essential process for most products prone to environmental influences. Moreover it gives a better appearance to the products, by giving an even surface and finish. Powder coating requires perfect regulated, evenly spread hot temperature for 10 to 15 minutes of curing to take place efficiently. However, the curing time may vary based on the powder coating. The longevity of the powder coating depends on the perfect timings and over baking would result in brittle surface. Even leaving the items too long in the over after the curing can also affect the item’s appearance and longevity.
