Patient description • 95% of the long term care receiving population rely on family members and friends for help for daily life • 70% of the combined community and institutional population receiving long-term care rely on private resources. • Patients with mental disabilities • Elderly people (50% of people with developmental disability are admitted after age 40)

  3. Services provided • Skilled Nursing Care • Health Aides • Personal Care Aides • Respite Care (Temporary care given to people with long term care to give relief to usual caregivers) • Medical equipment/technology • Home repair • Hospice

  4. Costs • Home care: $45,760 • Adult Day Care: $16,700 • Living Facility: $41,800 • Nursing Home (Semi- private room): $54,750 • Nursing Home (Private room):$63,875

Miscellaneous • Right now, around 9 million elderly Americans need long term health care. • By 2020, 12 million elderly Americans will need long term health care. • More than 70% of nursing and personal care home residents are women • 2/3rds of them are widowed or divorced. • About 40% are demented and about 60% require assistance with four of more activities of daily living.
