  3. Stage One – Set Up: This is a small part of a film that introduces Characters and learn a tiny bit about initial complications. Stage Two – Complicating Action: This is the stage where characters begin to run onto the main challenges in the film. Stage Three – Development: Development is where we go deeper into the main challenges in the film and maybe discover a few side challenges. Stage Four – Climax/Resolution: This stage is the part of the film where the main challenges are taken care of and this is also for the biggest moment in the entire movie. Then resolution is usually what happens to the characters after the climax. That’s a brief explanation of the Four stages of development in film. The Four Stages of Development

  4. In Raiders of the Lost Ark, we start with the introduction if Indiana Jones as well as Marion. We are also introduced to Arnold Ernst Toht, who is also on the hunt for the Ark. This also shows us that there will be problems in the future while Indiana is looking for the Ark. Transitions between Set up to complicating action

  5. So far we know that the Nazis are looking for the Ark. This now posses as a threat to Indy. He now must find the Ark while also not being found by the Nazis or letting the Nazis take it for themselves. Complicating action to development

  6. While Indy has to keep the Nazis from taking the Ark, the Nazis of course take it. Now the action is getting more intense! The nazis then take to an island and they soon find out the Arks true power. In short, the ark kills all the Nazis with a very pretty beam of light. It also melts a guys face and blows up another guys face. This could be concluded by Indy and Marion surviving and taking the Ark to a giant warehouse. Crazy! Development to Climax/resolution

  7. Dangling cause in film is when a character mentions something that may not seem important but will come back later in the film. Three examples from Raiders are Indy saying he hates snakes, the Staff of Ra, and Marion in the drinking contest. Dangling Cause

  8. Near the beginning of Raiders Indy has a very famous line, “I Hate Snakes.” Now at first it may not seem important, but later in the film Indy is thrown into a hole that is full of snakes! Dangling cause – “I Hate snakes!”

  9. In the movie, Indy finds out that he must find the staff of Ra. Again this may not seem important but he later needs to find the actual staff and the top of it to find out where the Ark is buried. Dangling cause – Staff of Ra

  10. When Indy searches for Marion, the scene before Indy finds her we see her participating in a drinking game. She proceeds to win the game. Now, why is this important? When Indy discovers where the ark is hidden Marion was captured by a Mr. Belloq. She then tries to escape by getting Belloq drunk and then she would leave his rent and run away. Dangling Cause – Drinking game

  11. A Motif is a music theme or even a color that shows importance throughout the movie. Most of the motifs in Raiders are music themes. Such as Indys theme, Marions theme, and the Arks theme. Motifs

  12. Throughout Raiders, we hear the Indyana Jones theme. The reason that we hear this theme so many times in Raiders is because it shows when something heroic is happening or if someone or something is alluding to Indy. Examples: Any time Indy is flying on an Airplane. ---------- Another small example is when Indy escapes the Indians by swinging on a vine. Motif – Indys theme

  13. Another music theme in Raiders is Marions Theme. Marions theme usually pops up when Indy is thinking of her. Another example is when Indy and Marion kiss. Motif – Marions theme

  14. The Arks music theme pops up anytime someone refrences the Ark or when we see the Ark itslef. One example is when Indy and the other professors are talking about it with the book. Also another example is when Indy takes the ark. Motif – The arks theme

  15. In any movie there are many clues that can clue us in on things in the movie. Be it a color or music theme, even dangling causes that can clue us in on future events. As a film lover these are very important things to know and understand. Plus it makes movies more enjoyable! Conclusion
