  3. EXPERIENCING GOD – WEEK 6(Review From Week 5) 1. The sovereign will of God focuses on the fact that whatever God decrees, it has to come to pass. 2. Even humans’ “free will” cannot interfere with the sovereign will or plan of God. 3. This understanding of God’s sovereign will does not imply that God causes everything to happen. 4. The permissive will of God focuses on the fact that God gave us the ability to make choices (free will), and that God permits humankind to make choices even if they are in disobedience to His desire. 5. Man’s choices or will can only operate within the confines of what God allows.

  4. THIS WEEK’S LESSONTHE CRISIS OF BELIEF THE CRISIS OF BELIEF Thought of the Week “God doesn’t measure your mind. He measures your heart.”

  5. EXPERIENCING GOD – WEEK 6 THE CRISIS OF BELIEF Memorization Scripture Hebrews 11:6 “Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

  6. EXPERIENCING GOD – WEEK 6 THE CRISIS OF BELIEF WORKING DEFINITIONS “CRISIS” A crucial or decisive point or situation; a turning point. “BELIEF” Confidence in the truth

  7. EXPERIENCING GOD – WEEK 6THE CRISIS OF BELIEF A TURNING POINT – MAKING IT PERSONAL • When God tells me what He wants to do through me, I will face a crisis of belief. • When God invites me to join Him in His work, He has a God-sized assignment for me. • I have torealize I cannot do it on my own. • If God doesn’t help me, I will fail. • I have reached a turning point…to trust or not to trust? THAT is the question!

  8. EXPERIENCING GOD – WEEK 6THE CRISIS OF BELIEF A TURNING POINT – MAKING IT PERSONAL • Upon revelation that I have received an invitation from God that is above and beyond all I have ever asked for or imagined, a crisis begins. • This is the crisis point where many decide not to follow what they sense God is leading them to do.

  9. EXPERIENCING GOD – WEEK 6THE CRISIS OF BELIEF A TURNING POINT – MAKING IT PERSONAL • Blackabystates that the word crisis comes from a word that means “decision.” • The crisis of belief is a turning point where I must make a decision. • I must decide what I believe about God. • How I respond at this turning point will determine whether I go on to be involved with God in something God-sized that only He can do, or whether I will continue to go my own way and miss what God has purposed for my life.

  10. EXPERIENCING GOD – WEEK 6THE CRISIS OF BELIEF A TURNING POINT – MAKING IT PERSONAL • These crises of belief (prounounced cry-seez) are not one time experiences. • They occur daily. Teacher’srequest: Write down in your workbook or on your note pad any crisis of belief that has occurred this week or today. • What I believe about God, determines what I do and how I behave. • Every crisis of belief requires a new level of faith.

  11. EXPERIENCING GOD – WEEK 6THE CRISIS OF BELIEF Case Study: The Story of Job Job 1:22 “In all this, Job did not sin (Hebrew – hata) by charging God with wrongdoing. Job 2:10b “In all this, Job did not sin (hata) in what he said (Hebrew – sapah). Hata – means to miss the mark, to get lost, to suffer a serious breakdown in a personal relationship Sapah – means to open one’s lips to speak prayerful, joyful honest truth or to speak mischievous, perverse, sinful language

  12. EXPERIENCING GOD – WEEK 6THE CRISIS OF BELIEF Case Study: The Story of Job • Satan wants to tempt us to fail. The name "Satan" comes from a Hebrew word signifying an adversary, an enemy, and an accuser. In God's Word, we discover that Satan is God's enemy and is against all for which God stands. He is the archenemy of good. Isaiah 14:12-15, "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit."

  13. EXPERIENCING GOD – WEEK 6THE CRISIS OF BELIEF Next Week: THE CRISIS OF BELIEF PART II CASE STUDY OF JOSEPH Genesis: Chapters 37, 39, 40, 41, 42,43, 44, 45
