  3. CORE CLASSES • ELA, Texas Studies, 7th Math(Course 2), Science Regular: These classes cover the state required curriculum in each of the subject areas. They will successfully prepare students for CP classes in High School. • ELA Pre-AP, 7th Math (Course 2) Pre-AP, Science Pre-AP and Texas Studies Pre-AP: These courses are designed for strong readers and writers and those students who wish to learn at a higher cognitive level. • Students currently enrolled in Course 2 will register for 7th Pre-Algebra Pre-AP. • Students may take any combination of Pre-AP and Regular classes.

  4. Physical Activity Requirement All students must choose one elective from this category. Students may be in band and an athletic class. • Boys’ Athletics: For students interested in playing on the football team. • Girls’ Athletics: For girls interested in competing in volleyball, basketball and track. • Tennis: For students with prior tennis knowledge who wish to compete on our tennis team(try-outs will be held first week of school) • Cross Country: For students wishing to compete on our cross country team. • PE: For students interested in noncompetitive sports. • Band( must take in 7th and 8th grade both to meet PE requirement) • Soccer, Swimming, and Golf are only after school, not part of a class period.

  6. Semester Electives • Theatre Arts I • Art I • Computer Applications • Teen Leadership • Piano 1 Plus . . . .the following new electives. . .

  7. Career Exploration • Through the use of career exploration software, students will explore their interests and careers to better determine their future course of study. • Students will learn about high school graduation requirements and narrow down career choices to help choose their high school endorsement. • Students will learn about college and career readiness, college planning and financial literacy.

  8. Keyboarding • Students will be taught the proper way to type on a keyboard which will help them in future course work as they will be able to complete tasks more quickly and efficiently. This will also help them with the high school EOC’s as all are in an online format. • Students will also learn the proper format for typing memos and letters.

  9. Creative Writing • Have you ever dreamed of becoming a writer? • Do you like to write for fun? • If so, this is the course for you. Students will be exposed to a variety of writing genres—poetry, short story, fiction, non-fiction, drama, etc. Your creativity and writing skills will be enhanced through this class for aspiring authors.

  10. DECISIONS, DECISIONS, DECISIONS • You must select the following classes: 1. An ELA, Math, TX Studies and Science Course(Pre-AP or Regular) 2. 1 Elective that fulfills the physical activity requirement 3. 1 more full year or 2 semester electives.

Things to look forward to: • Competitive Sports • More categories to compete in for UIL • TMSCA and Math Counts State Competition in Austin/San Antonio • Chess Nationals • Cheer and Dance Team membership • Pep Rallies, Guest Speakers, more choices in the lunch lines • New friends from different elementary schools. • Elective classes.

  12. Coming in 8th grade • National Junior Honor Society: Membership in this prestigious society is granted at the end of 7th grade to students with an A average at the end of the first semester. • High School Credit classes: Algebra I, IPC, Speech, Health, Gateway To Technology, Accelerated Algebra I/Geometry, Spanish I, Spanish AP.
