  1. Bednarcik 8th Grade Registration 2013-2014 JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

  2. Full Year electives • Band • Prior band experience and consent of instructor required. • Choir • Opportunity to participate in different large and small performing groups. Attending periodic evening performances are a required part of the class. Prior vocal experience is not required.

  3. Full Year electives cont. • Spanish 1b Students will review the major concepts of Spanish 1a and then progress to more complex grammar and vocabulary in preparation for high school. Students who achieve at an 80% or above in Spanish 1a and Spanish 1b combined will be eligible for Spanish 2 at the high school level. Study Hall Quiet period to work on homework and study for tests. Study halls are offered for the entire year or just one semester.

Semester Electives • Industrial Education I • Students will be exposed to reading, following, and modifying technical plans, tool and machine use and safety, wood processing, manufacturing, safety procedures, and career exploration. • Industrial Education II • Students gain a more in-depth introduction to reading technical plans, design, tool and machine use, wood processing, manufacturing, safety procedures, research and career exploration. • Industrial Technology • Students will be introduced to measuring, technical research, reading and making of technical plans, drafting/CAD (Computer Aided Design), problem solving strategies, material processing, and safety procedures. Activities may include bridge design/building contest, sailboat design/races, CO2 dragster design/races, and CAD applications.

  5. Semester electives cont. • Drafting/Graphics • Students get hands-on exposure to processes and skills needed in the drafting and graphic communication fields. Areas of study may include lettering, tool applications, sketching, measuring/scale applications, two and three dimensional drawings, CAD (Computer Aided Design), and career exploration.

Semester electives cont. • Family Life Resources I • Consumer education, family, and foods • Family Life Resources II • Sewing and foods • Family Consumer Science I • Child development and foods (Preschool Class) • Family Consumer Science II • Citizenship and community, sewing, and foods (Restaurant style lunch for teachers)

  7. Semester Electives cont. • Drama • Basic theatrical concepts such as writing, acting, memorization, improvisation, and production. Students will also learn general speaking and debate skills. • 2D Art • Students learn to work with two-dimensional media and are presented with a wide array of media and techniques. Students develop skills in drawing and painting while learning about art in the context of history, art styles, and artists. • 3D Art • 3D Art offers students the opportunity to explore sculptural media in different formats. Throughout the 3D Art curriculum, students are introduced to wire, clay, plaster, and paper mache projects.

Semester Electives cont. • Graphic Arts • Students will learn advanced graphic applications and use learned concepts to design a company logo and full page advertisement. • Advanced Applications and Multimedia • Computer Ethics • Microsoft Publisher (advanced skills) • The Internet (History, citations & more) • Microsoft Excel • Windows Movie Maker • Adobe Photoshop (beginner skills)
