  1. Thriller films Ben Jackson

  2. Characters In different thriller films not all characters are the same but there are generic types of characters that are commonly used. The characters that normally occur are: hero's and heroin's, villains, crooks or gangsters, spies, criminals and assassins. All of the people have a back story and a lifestyle surrounding them. Sometimes the main character is a public person who has been bought into the action by accident. They do this to show how these things can happen to any of the audience to make the story more believable and make you think after you have seen the film.

  3. Props In a thriller film there are many props that are typically seen. The props may be things like guns, money, weapons. Also included in the typical thriller film would be costumes, so the antagonist would be wearing dark colours and may have something covering their face so you don’t know who they are. Also in a thriller film it is likely that they may be a car chase so fast cars would also appear quite frequently.

  4. Settings/Locations The location and settings in a thriller film can make or break a film. There are many places that commonly occur in a thriller film to set the scene and create the tension that needs to be involved in the film. A lot of time in thriller films the main character seems to be led into a place that they are unfamiliar with and this adds tension as the character starts to panic and become aware with what may be happening. A lot of the time derelict and abandoned buildings/areas are used just to make the scene more eerie.

  5. Music/Sound effects In thriller films, the majority of the time the music is dark, slow music that has been performed by an orchestra with a lot of string instruments. And as the action and tensions goes a lot, the louder and the higher pitched the music will become. Without this the scene wouldn’t be as affective. The music also helps the audience to know what is going on and what is about to happen as sometimes the audience can become lost and not know what’s happening.

  6. Lighting In thriller films the traditional lighting is low key and the colours are greyscale. Greyscale is a range of grey shades from white to black, as used in a monochrome display or printout. Low-key lighting is a style of lighting for photography, film or television. It is a necessary element in creating a chiaroscuro effect.
