  2. A Joint Partnership of DOST DOH DILG DepED Memorandum of Agreement (Signed on August 25, 2011 in Barangay Bagbag, Quezon City) Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue

  3. Objective of the Memorandum of Agreement: • jointly undertake the pursuit of addressing the pressing concern for the prevalence of dengue. The MOA is an inter-agency cooperation strategy for intensifying the anti-dengue drive of the government.

  4. Objective of the Project: • Maintain, update and enhance website for dengue vector surveillance in participating schools nationwide • Updated reporting of OL index for appropriate intervention • Provide a “warning system” (white safe red Alert ) for dengue vector surveillance

  5. The program has two components: 1. B. Installation A. Deployment DOST OL Trap System for Aedes Mosquito Public Schools (Nationwide) Elementary High School C. Monitoring of OL index

  6. 2. Establishment of a website for dengue vector surveillance

  7. Importance of the Website: • for immediate intervention and action to prevent dengue outbreak. • serve as monitoring tool for dengue coordinators, • city health officers and other public health practitioners. • provides information on mosquito density data as well as warning alerts, health advisory and actions to be undertaken from DOH. • readily accessed by the public and other concerned • groups.

  8. Process Flow DOH DOST (ITDI) HVC DepED Provide funds to DOST for the purchase of OL Trap Kits Procure the Kits Produce and deliver the kits to the schools 1. Install the kits in the Classroom (2 kits per classroom) 2. Monitor and record OL trap indices weekly 3. Submit data through SMS to content provider DOST Regional Offices 1. Monitor dengue incidence/cases 2. Issue health advisory/alerts Conduct monitoring and ensure data on OL trap indices are reported weekly. DOST • Upload the data on OL Trap Indices to the website • Maintain, manage and operate the website

  13. Why we need to install the OL Trap System?

  14. Why we need to install the OL Trap System? • A two in one device: • Surveillance tool and at the same time, • a trap; reducing the population density • (collects eggs). • It is also an attractant trap of which the eggs are deposited on the paddle. • The trap consists of a black container, a small strip of lawanit or tongue depressor and water. • It is used as a means of detecting mosquitoes as well as an approximate gauge of the adult population in an area. • It can be used to estimate fairly well the population of adult mosquitoes in the environment by counting the number of eggs laid on the moist paddle. • In this way, a sudden increase of mosquito population can be detected.
