  2. Advantages of Wind Energy • Free, can be captured easily and efficiently with modern technology. • Does not give out green house gases and other pollutants. • Only small plot of land taken up. • Interesting feature of the landscape. • Remote areas that are not connected to the electricity power grid can use wind turbines to produce their own supply. • Can be used in both developed and developing countries.

  3. Disadvantages of Wind Energy • Strength of wing is not constant, little energy produced sometimes. • Landscape is not in its natural state. • Noisy and ugly • Pollution is produced during the manufacture of the turbines. • Large and many wind farms are needed to provide entire communities with enough electricity. • Construction is expensive.

  4. Case Study of Holland • Netherlands wants to stimulate the use of wind power, biomass and other forms of renewable energy • To reduce the country’s reliance on fossil fuel and it is also to be more environmentally- friendly • Targets 14% sustainable energy in 2020 (bio- energy such as solar power, which does not run out easily) • Main types of renewable energy are: wind, solar, biofuel and geothermal • Netherlands plan to utilise onshore and offshore winds to harness energy as they have the most potential as a Dutch energy supply • Targets 6000 megawatts installed power capacity from onshore wind turbines by 2020 • Its flat and windswept countryside make it highly suitable for wind energy, as the wind can travel unhindered by any large mountains or structures
