  1. What Role Does Protein Play in Building Muscle When you work out, some of the muscle tissues experience a slight tear and need to be repaired. Protein helps in rebuilding and regenerating muscle tissues. Amino acids makeup proteins and are the building blocks of muscle. Out of these, there are some essential amino acids (EAA) that have to be got through diet or supplements as they cannot be made by the body. Some diet sources for EAAs are meat, beans, soy and nuts. If opting for a supplement, then you can go for different protein supplements – pea, quinoa, rice, whey, etc. Some things to remember while selecting a protein supplement are: Additives to avoid while buying the best whey protein powder to build muscle are: Artificial Flavors: They are known to be very harmful to health and it is better to avoid brands that use them. Thickeners and Gums: Xanthum gum (INS 415), anti-foaming and anti-caking agents are best avoided. Fillers: They work as fillers and are a cost-cutting technique by many companies. They should be avoided. Artificial Sweeteners: Ingredients such as Saccharin, Sucralose and NutraSweet are not good for health and are known to create side effects like headaches, digestive issues, etc. Refined Sugar: It is best to avoid drinks containing refined sugar as it is said to be harmful to health. You should also check for the authenticity of the product on the website of the brand. Most products have a hologram on the packet. Various brands contain different protein quantities per scoop.
