An Electronic Medical Record is a secured electronic file of patient history, medical transcription notes, billing information, and all other information necessary to have a complete patient profile. It is true that the electronic medical record is indicative of a faster-paced informational age in which larger quantities of information require more effective database infrastructure, but there are many more benefits to both the medical service provider and the consumer.

It is true that the electronic medical record is indicative of a faster-paced informational age in which larger quantities of information require more effective database infrastructure, but there are many more benefits to both the medical service provider and the consumer.

  4. Electronic medical records are secure and only the relevant people can have access to them. They are much safer than paper based records, and are less likely to be damaged in the case of a fire or flood.

  5. Another one of the advantages of electronic medical records is additional space. If your practice is renting a warehouse to store all your records or even if you just have a room set aside, it can be a waste of space and money. Storage facilities aren't cheap - that's money you could use to hire someone new, upgrade your facility, and more.

  6. Not to mention another room could mean space for more patients or new equipment. In the highly-competitive medical field, you can't afford wasted money or space. While going digital could be a high cost initially, but when you consider how much you'll save over time by using them, they could be a great investment.

  7. If you have a patient with a health problem and they want to travel, you might be worried about them travelling in case of an emergency. But if they have an electronic health record, you know that your patients will have access to their medical information no matter where you are in the world.
