University for Seniors: A Pioneering Initiative in Healthy Aging

The University for Seniors program at AUB offers older adults educational and social opportunities, promoting active aging in Lebanon and the region. Through peer-led activities and intergenerational connections, older people can remain intellectually challenged and socially engaged, benefiting their physical and mental health. The program's feasibility phase involved focus group discussions, alumni surveys, and international program reviews. Sponsored by the Neighborhood Initiative, Faculty of Health Sciences, and Center for Continuing Education, the initiative showcases a new vision of well-being for older individuals.   2. Neighborhood Initiative priorities were established through extensive interviews with Ras Beirut neighbors.

  3. Out of the interviews came the concern about the well-being of older people in Ras Beirut. How might AUB respond? Too often older people are seen as needing only social and medical services.
