  3. Fiber • Carbohydrates that can not be digested • Found in plants (Fruit, Veggies, & Grains) • Soluble& Insoluble • Lowers Blood cholesterol • Helps digestive system stay healthy • Has no calories • Examples: • Bread • Fruit • Almonds

  4. Fat • Builds nerve tissue and hormones • Used as fuel • Stored in fat cells • Kids need 2,000 calories per day • Bodies way of thinking ahead • Examples: • Nuts • Butter • Oil • Meat

  5. Vitamins • A, D, E, and K • dissolve in fat • Found in all foods • Need a fresh supply of vitamins • Helps to grow and develop properly • Uses iron • 2 types • fat soluble • water soluble

  6. Minerals • Helps the body develop and grow • Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Zinc. • Iron is used to carry oxygen • Creates a steady heart beat • 2 types, macro minerals & trace minerals • Macro minerals: calcium, potassium, sulfer • Trace minerals: iron, copper ,zinc
