Carbon Management for HE sector • 9 month programme • Fully funded by Carbon Trust • Requires significant time input by a HE project leader (2 days per week) • Aims are to • Establish current carbon footprint • Change knowledge and attitude about energy and carbon issues across the organisation • Get different departments working together to achieve change • Create a costed and prioritised Strategic Action Plan for the way forward.

On site energy efficiency advice • Carbon Trust and client agree project scope and expertise required. • Onsite survey and reporting completed by a specialist energy consultant appointed by the Carbon Trust • A particular survey can be fully funded or part funded depending on • The carbon prize • Energy bill of your organisation • What other surveys are planned for the same FY

Low Carbon Building Design Advice • 40% of energy use is in buildings • Buildings we design now will be around til 2050 (IPCC target is -60% by 2050 in order to stabilise CO2 in the atmosphere) • New buildings are a “not to be missed” opportunity • Recent experience shows that public sector buildings can reduce carbon emissions by up to 2/3 by careful attention especially at design stage for minimal increased cost.

Salix – help to finance energy efficiency • www.salixfinance.co.uk • Revolving credit fund • Salix joint funds initial ring fenced fund with HE • Salix withdraws its initial investment over time (3 yrs) as savings are collected • Competitive bid i.e. HE organisations with lowest payback portfolio of energy efficiency projects are most likely to get funding.
