Using technology to threaten, insult, or harass: Internet Cell phones, Blackberries, iPhones Websites Blogs MySpace, Facebook, Twitter Instant Messaging (IM), e-mails and text messages Anonymity(hiding identity with false screen names or e-mail addresses) Distributing embarrassing or fake photos (sexting) Telling lies and spreading false rumors via:e-mails, IM or text messages Cyberbullying is. . .

Parent Responsibilities • Speak with your child before threats are made • Call the school hotline (973) 383-5300, ext. 224 • Make an appointment to meet with a school counselor and the principal to discuss possible conflict resolutions • Be prepared for the student making a threat to be sent home and remain home until a final determination is made • Be prepared to take a student who issues a threat to a mental health agency to determine the readiness of the student to return to school
