Friday, 20 December 2019 Driving Question: What are the key features of a Jewish Synagogue? warm I can identify the features of a Synagogue. hot I can describe how Jewish people use each feature scorching I can explain a similarity or a difference between the synagogue and one other place of worship

  2. Starter Think of a place where you feel safe, happy or peaceful. • Where are you? • This is how Jews feel in a Synagogue.

  3. The Simpson's have recently been on a trip to Springfield’s Synagogue to meet Krusty’s dad and to learn about features of a Synagogue. They are here to tell you what they have learnt……..

  4. Once you have finished, sit in your seat and see the board for a ‘stretch’ activity Stick in your image of the Synagogue. Go around the room annotating your picture of the Synagogue and drawing on anything that is missing. Read carefully ready for a quick quiz for some more merits!

  13. The Star of David will be found on the outside of a synagogue, it is the symbol for Judaism. The word ‘synagogue’ means ‘meeting place’

  14. In many synagogues there are stained glass windows showing important symbols of faith: including the Star of David, The Menorah or the Ten Commandments. Stained Glass Windows What other place of worship also has this feature?

  15. The Ark is the most important feature in the synagogue.Inside the ark, the handwritten holy scrolls of the Torah are kept. The Ark The Ten Commandments decorate the Ark, reminding Jews of their most important rules.

  17. The Bimah This is a Bimah. A Bimah is a platform in the centre of the synagogue. The scrolls are read from here.

  18. Also known as NerTamid. This light is kept burning to show God is always present.

  19. The Jewish holy book is called the Torah. The Torah are the first five books of the Bible.
