  2. 9.01 Explain the benefits of interior home care

  3. Tools • Adjustable wrench- used for loosening and tightening pipes, pip fitting, bolts and nuts • Pliers- used for gripping and cutting • Phillips screw driver- good for assembling book cases, directions show an X to use

  4. Preventative Methods • Leaky faucets and toilets are common and need to be fixed to prevent wasting water • Sometimes can be replaced by replacing a worn washer • To keep drains unclogged, you can use chemicals but make sure to use them as directed

  5. Schedules • Are an organization of time and/or people for cleaning the home • To prolong the life of carpet, it should be vacuumed weekly • Shelves and drawers in a kitchen should be cleaned and straightened monthly

  7. Roofs/Gutters • Roofs and drainage systems should be checked every six months • Down spouts- connects to gutters to carry water away from the foundation of the house • If you see water stains on the ceiling of your room, check for damaged or missing shingles

  8. Windows • Weather stripping- keeps moisture and air out of home

  10. Plumbing • System which carries water and waste water out of one’s home

  11. Carpets/Rugs/Furniture • Best tool for cleaning is a carpet a vacuum cleaner • Best tool for cleaning a small rug is just shaking it by hand • Best way to keep a new sofa clean is to vacuum and check the folds for lodged objects

  12. Disinfecting • VERY important to use a true DISINFECTANT when cleaning the home after someone has been ill

  13. Energy Labels • A label that states the average yearly cost of operating an appliance is the energy guide

  14. Warranties • Can help a person choose a product over another • Limited- cover some repairs

  15. Repairs • Changing the filter on air conditioners can help them run efficiently • Wallpaper fades over time and needs to be removed once they become loose at corners • To fix holes in the walls, you can use spackling compound to fix them
