“Hola”, Hi Parents**:
It is my pleasure to have your child as my student. I am a native-Spanish teacher who cares and enjoys working with students, originally from Panama City, Republic of Panama (Central America). I have a Masters degree in Foreign Language -Spanish from West Virginia University and I have been teaching Spanish for the past seven years.
As a new teacher I am in the process to update the Spanish website, where I will be posting announcements, assignments, quizzes and tests due dates, and other resources to be used in this course. However, today, I would like you to know the most important information related to the course, your child responsibilities, classroom rules and procedures:
Content: Interactive course that will help your child develop his/her communicative proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing of the Spanish language. They will also learn varios aspects of the Hispanic culture and history..
Textbook: Realidades Spanish 1 or 2. The textbook will be online.
Workbooks: Realidades Core Practice/Guided Practice and Realidades Communication. Students will have a shelf in the room to leave their workbooks if not needed to complete a homework or to study.
Assessment: Every grade will cover specific units of the textbook based on the Spanish level and program chosen. Schedules of units by class, assignments and due dates will be posted in the website later (approximately in a week). You will be informed when it is time and it is ready to use.
Homework (15%): includes but not limited to, workbooks pages, writing, interviews and research used to reinforce Spanish material given.
Class-work (15%): practices of Spanish class given to be done in the classroom and the Lab-room.
Projects (20%): every unit will have a project to start in the classroom and may be finished at home.
