  2. La independencia de México 1900 1500 1700 1600 Antes de 1519 • Many indigenous tribes live in Mexico, including Aztecs, Toltecs, and Mayans 1800

  3. La independencia de México noviembre 1519 • Hernán Cortes arrives in México and finds the Aztecs. Cortes and the king of the Aztecs speak amicably in the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlán. 1900 1500 1700 1600 1800 1519 • Cortes is given 20 slave women, one of which is named Marina. He takes her as a wife and she becomes his interpreter and spy. She is seen as a traitor by her people after the Spanish are able to defeat the Aztecs.
