    3. 3 Why After School Programs? After school programs are charged with providing structured activities for youth. After school programs are in a unique position to positively impact youth.

    9. 9 ALL STARS Jr Activities Related to Social Norms for Behavior Getting Along Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down? How Can We Get Along Better?

    10. 10 Getting Along Activity Youth are asked to write down things that help and hurt getting along. The class votes on whether the behaviors listed help or hurt getting along. A master list of getting along behaviors is created for a poster to be used throughout the program.

    14. 14 Positive Character Having positive character is inconsistent with risky behaviors. All Stars Junior Community focuses on six character words.

    18. 18 Character Words Activity Youth introduce themselves by drawing a stick figure of themselves with something that distinguishes them (e.g., glasses, hair). Youth are introduced to the character words and the meanings are discussed. Youth add speech balloons to their drawings that portrays a character word.

    19. 19 Character Cartoons Youth are asked to add a speech balloon to their stick figure depicting a character word. The example below shows “caring.”

    21. 21 Character Word Guessing Game The Character Word Guessing Game divides youth into teams. The facilitator reads a description of a character word. Each team tries to guess the character word being described.

    23. 23 Character Word Scavenger Hunts The Character Word Scavenger Hunts are take home activities for youth. Each hunt focuses on different character words. Each hunt asks youth to keep track of things they do that show good character. The “Who Is Here?” Scavenger Hunt is played during All Stars Jr. to help youth understand how the character word hunts work.

    34. 34 Youth are put into small groups and are given a short story to read. The stories are about kids who do things that make it harder to get along. Teams come up with endings where characters do things that help get along. Teams act out alternative endings.

    39. 39 This is an optional activity in All Stars Junior. Youth are challenged to complete all take home assignments in All Stars Junior. Youth who complete each take home assignment are given a reward.
