It’s cold and he barely has enough

  2. warm clothes; when you drive past him every day, you see him wipe his nose on his shirt sleeve — spare him a thought! Winter is often associated with festival time. The atmosphere is one of buzzing joyfulness and celebration. There are parties to attend, gifts to exchange, melas to visit and dinners to host. Christmas is no more just a festival of the West. Children, in particular, love this festival — thanks to the idea of Santa Claus and the goodies he represents. At this moment, spare a thought for the street children and bring a little warmth to their lives. Offer them a fun meal, something they will remember for many days to come. How is it that we can discriminate against these little souls so easily? They are shunned and shouted at when they approach anyone on the streets, they are ignored among groups of people, and they are expected to support themselves, irrespective of their tender and impressionable age. Street children are so marginalized that to get society to notice what is right under their noses is a task. These children require extra love, care and attention from responsible and supportive adults to grow into responsible thinking adults. Salaam Baalak Trust’s engagement with street and working children substantially helps them in turning their lives around and live with dignity. From focusing on mental health for street children to engaging them in education programs, SBT is helping several children in Delhi. They may formerly be living on the roads, railway platforms, under bridges or on crumbling streets, SBT supports children via various mediums of intervention.
