  1. It was originally known as“Armistice Day” - the dayWorld War I ended at 11:00 a.m., November 11, 1918, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

  2. The first Armistice Day ceremony was held in the United States in 1921. That day an unknown World War I American soldier was buried in Arlington National Cemetery at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

  3. However in 1954, the name was changed to “Veterans Day” to better reflect the honoring of all U.S. veterans, regardless of whenthey served their country.

  4. Throughout the historyof America men and women have answered the call to serve their country. For many, it cost them their lives.
