Revolution in Latin America • 1810 parts of Latin America revolt after Napoleon removes Spanish king from power • Led by Creoles who feel no loyalty to Napoleon • Two main leaders • Jose de San Martin: leads southern liberation forces in Argentia • Simon Bolivar: the “George Washington” of Latin America

  5. Simon Bolivar • Simon Bolivar: the “Liberator” • born in Venezuela • Leads 6 different countries to independence • Pan-Americanism: desire to unite all of Latin America into one nation • Gran Colombia: Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia all united together under Bolivar
