  1. The Giro d’Italia is coming! The Giro d’Italia is one of the biggest bike races in the world, and it’s coming to Northern Ireland! First held in 1909, the Giro d’Italia is a long distance road bicycle stage race held for professional cyclists over a three week period in May and June annually.  The Giro takes place in Italy, but there is a tradition to hold the start of the race in another country. This year the first three stages of the Giro are being held in Ireland, with stages taking in Belfast, Armagh and Dublin. The Giro is viewed around the world by a potential audience of 800 million.

  2. What is the Sustrans Giro Schools Challenge? • Inter-school walking, cycling and scooting competition that allows all schools in Northern Ireland to take part in a virtual Giro d’Italia race • It is an active and healthy way to travel to school • It is FUN! • Takes place from 31 March and 11 April 2014
