Their profession requires them to be very committed and is characterized by long working hours and transfers. During these professional commitments, quite a many IAS officers can find their life partners from the same service. Such relationships, which are commonly called IAS matrimony, introduce certain specific features into both their private and working lives, and the interconnection between duty and ambition, on the one hand, and companionship, on the other hand, constitutes an interesting element in their lives. The first and possibly the best aspect of IAS matrimony is the rationality and resemblance of the partners. Each person understands what is expected of him/her, and both instantly feel close and protective of the other — also known as ‘the other’s role’. This can help to reduce the stress of challenging the job since both partners are in a position to understand what the other is experiencing. The nature of their job is rather intense, so they both appreciate having each other to themselves and, therefore, cherish their time. One more aspect of IAS matrimony is that work-life conflict emerges as a tremendous issue in the lives of civil servants. Transfer and posting are frequent phenomena among IAS officers that affect the aspect of their life — family. However, couples in IAS officers have to face such changes when they have to be posted in different places spending considerable time away from each other. This can only come out clearly if there is a healthy working relationship between the servant leader and their subordinates or any other counterpart for that matter, where there must be trust and open communication. Nevertheless, IAS couples do not surrender their careers and relationships, thus learning how to adapt to the situation, to rely on their love and the common desire to succeed. Besides, IAS couples are usually involved in holding critical policy positions that shape the lives of millions of people. This shared mission may prove to be unifying because both partners in the relationship are motivated by the same interest, which is to serve the nation. Scientific work can range from policy discussions and coming up with new ideas within the home front, thus offering an interpersonal closeness that can enhance the stormy relationship between them. Such general professional interests can be very rewarding since they reinforce each other in providing a major impact to society. The social factor of IAS matrimony also helps to influence their behavior significantly. Being in a service line considered as one of the elites, IAS couples tend to interact with people who can appreciate their lifestyle and some of the hurdles they come across. They can also call on a network of peer groups that would serve the purpose of giving them support from their fellow couple. This also shows how social networks and official ceremonies reinforce working and interpersonal relationships, meaning that the couples’ professional and private spheres are intertwined. But contrary to this, IAS matrimony is not devoid of problems. The working pressure associated with such positions, not to mention the additional pressure arising from exposure to the public domain, affects relationships. Confidentiality that some branches of their work demand can also be an issue here. Nevertheless, a majority of IAS couples can manage these conflicts through diplomacy, prioritization of their relationship, and trying to strike a balance between the two worlds. In conclusion, IAS matrimony represents a unique blend of shared professional ambitions and personal companionship. The dynamics of such relationships include the pressure resulting from the nature of their work, the dependency and common concern, and the conflict between work and home responsibilities. Such partnerships reflect the aspect of durability that is necessary both to serve in a public capacity and in a marriage partnership.
