  4. Homework • Teaches responsibility • Provides review and practice • Generally includes Reading Log, Spelling, and Math or Science

  5. Arrival and Dismissal 7:55 students are called back to their room 8:05 students are tardy No cell phones in “School Zone” If your child is a car rider at dismissal please go through the car rider line to pick them up.

  6. Writing Workshop • Taught by Homeroom Teacher • Writing time everyday • Writing process • Focus on personal narratives, poetry, and expository writing • Writer’s Vocabulary: seed, lead, ending, small moments, layers of detail

  7. Spelling District adoption: Words Their Way

  8. Reading Workshop • Just Right Reading (JRR) / Accelerated Reader (AR) • Reading Log (reading for completion) • Teacher conferences • Comprehension skills: making connections, questioning, visualizing, determining importance, inferring, and synthesizing

  9. Math • Accuracy (correct answer) • Flexibility (different strategies) • Efficiency (solving in the most efficient way) • Fluency – practice math facts at home! • Topics: multiplication, division, fractions / decimals, geometry, measurement, problem solving strategies

  14. S.T.A.A.R. Testing Dates • Writing: April 1 and 2, 2014 • Math: April 22, 2014 • Reading: April 23, 2014

  15. Lunch Lunch Time is 12:05-12:30 Birthday treats can be ordered from the cafeteria at least two weeks in advance. Visitors are only allowed to sit with their own child at the visitor’s table.
